Birthday Penguin

Hello! Happy Monday and March 1st...March 1st! I am so happy to be done with February and while I know things in Canada weather wise will not change drastically but we are inching our way to better weather and pool season so I will take it!

Now onto the reason we are here, today I have a new challenge for you from H2H challenges. We are now posting challenges twice a month on the First and Third Monday of the month. Today's challenge is a sketch challenge; here is the sketch, it is a free sketch that CTMH put out for Valentines day, isn't it a fun sketch?

And here is my take on it. I got this stamp set called Winter Penguins and just could not wait to use them. I thought this would be a fun one to use it on. I did flip it on its side to make it up and down versus landscape.

Yoo Hoo! AHSC 409

Hello! Welcome to Wednesday and another creation I have made. I made this card for dual purposes, I needed a card for my workshop and for the Design Team at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge so as I often do, I combined them and used the sketch for one of the cards (most of the cards) for my workshop!

I had a lot of fun making this card, I thought this would be a cute card to send to a special child in your life to give them a lift during these tough times and what kids don't enjoy getting snail mail?

The inside of this card has a special treat in stamping, lots of little buddies to say HI! to the special recipient of the card!

It's Faux Blog Hop

Hello! Welcome the the Technique Blog Hop where everything is Faux...we are using our scrappy supplies to create projects that look like other things. If you are joining me from Melissa Robinson, you are in the right place...welcome! If you are starting here, we are glad to have you join us. Melissa is also the place to go if you get lost along the way to start from the beginning or find where you got lost.

Tonight I have a project using a new to me technique of Stained Glass. The goal is to make the project look like Stained Glass.  I am sure this technique has been around for years but I had never heard of it. So I thought I would give it a try. I pulled out a thin cut that I thought would give me a lot of opportunities for colouring and places to make the glass like look. My first thought was the X3680 Hearts Background Die and this is how it turned out, I see a few areas I could improve upon but overall for a first attempt, I think it came out great.

If this is new to you too, I will list the steps for how I did this.

  1. Using your die cutting machine and the die cut of your choice, cut at least 4-5 of the die, in my case it was the Heart Bouquet die.
  2. Layer the first of the die cuts on a piece of White Daisy yardstick with all the Hearts punched out.
  3. After the glue or adhesive dries, colour in the hearts. I used the Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend markers and provided shading  in them. Be aware if using Liquid Glass the colours will become much more vibrant and bold. You do not need to worry about staying in the lines, you will be covering any colouring that went outside the thin cut.
  4. Once you are done colouring, add the next 2-4 thin cut pieces right on top of each other. You will need one more for the top layer so be sure to set one aside.
  5. Once the layers are down, you will take Liquid Glass and generously fill each heart with Liquid Glass. I used a medium sized needle to ensure I got the liquid glass into the corners and edges and to pop or remove any bubbles.
  6. Once the Liquid Glass is in all of the hearts, set this piece aside to dry. I gave mine over night to dry due to the large amount of liquid glass in each heart.
  7. With the last thin cut layer use Versamark and over it completely and then cover with Silver Embossing powder and heat set. I actually did this 3 or 4 times to ensure a good coverage. The heat did make the paper curl quite a lot and so I set it under some of my acrylic blocks over night to flatten out and that did just the trick.
  8. The next morning I glued the silver embossed piece right on top of the now dried piece with the Liquid Glass.
  9. To finish embellishing I used Z3684 Thanks thin cut, I cut the shadow in White Daisy and the actual letters in Black card stock. Before gluing down I coated the black letters with the Black Shimmer Brush to give it a bit of a sheen. Once it was dry I glued it down across the card.
Here are a few close ups to show the sheen and glassy look.

Unicorn

Hello! Today I have another Valentine I created using the AHSC sketch #407. This card is for my MIL to give to my middle daughter for Valentines day. My middle daughter LOVES the colour Blue and has since she could colour, it was always blue so the Oh My Heart papers were perfect because it has these blue stripes as well as they adorable heart patterned paper with blue hearts. My daughter is also addicted to all things Unicorns or puppies so since her birthday card was puppies I went Unicorn for Valentines day! She knows this stamp well and it is one of her favourites so she will be super excited to get this card.

Be Amazing - AHSC #406

Hello! Welcome February! I am so excited that January is done, kids are finally back at school after being in lockdown (still in lockdown) however the kids are no long remote learning and are back to in person learning as of this week! Time to get caught up on my things!

Today I have a Valentine card I made for my oldest daughter, this will actually be given to her by her grandmother as I am supplying cards for her through the pandemic since she cant go shopping!

For this card I did a bit of stash busting and pulled out last years February special from CTMH which was Oh My Heart and used up a bit of the scraps. I also used S1501 This Moment (from 2015...feels good to use some older supplies!) and CC12204 Perfect Match (current item)
