R is for.... Heart 2 Heart Challenge

Today I have a fun and funky card for you that I did for the Heart 2 Heart Challenges design team. The challenge this week  is Monogram. Use a monogram in your project. I know that monograms are HUGE in the southern part of the USA but in Canada not very popular so I did a fun card with a Huge "R" for Robinson!

I used the Penelope paper pack for this one and I will admit I was not a huge fan of this paper pack, I did like it but it was not one of my must haves but the more I played with it this weekend the more I am falling in LOVE with it. I would never have paired purple and yellow together and wow look how awesome they go together!

Retired! A H2H challenge!

This week at Heart 2 Heart challenges we are all about retirement!  Do you know someone who is retiring from a long career or are you like me and have a huge stash of retired products in your craft areas?

Since no one I know is close to retiring, except my father in law but he won't, I went with the retired product angle!

I have used the retired CTMH paper pack Jubilee and the retired stamp of the month Candlelight Garden. I did go new on the water colour paints on the flowers.

It is all about the numbers - H2H Challenges

Happy Monday to you! Today is Monday and I am bringing you a new challenge from Heart 2 Heart challenges. The challenge for this week is all about numbers, just incorporate numbers into your project and you are good to go!

For this weeks challenge I had the idea of cutting out a bunch of numbers and using the negative space for the card. I was not sure what I would do in the background so I had to sit on it for a few days until I figured out what I was going to do and it finally came to me, the water colour paints. 

I really like how vibrant I was able to get the colours to appear. I actually let my 5 and 8 year old daughters do the painting for me, they hover when I am at my scrapbook table and I figured this is something they could do, how hard could water coloured stripes be? I think they did fabulous! I did use various fonts on my Silhouette studio for the numbers but the scalloped circle and plain circle were both done with my Cricut Art philosophy.

Through the window - A H2H Challenge

This week we have a fun challenge from Heart 2 Heart challenges. The theme is "Through the window." What is your take on this theme?

I will admit I struggled with this a bit compared to my fellow design team members, they had some super awesome creative ideas. All I could come up with is this card with a window and a flower box. I was ok with that as I love this sweet stamp set and use it whenever I can. 

I got to play with our the new CTMH Zoe papers and I will be ordering more of this paper as I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It is so versatile. You will be seeing more of these papers in my next few blog posts because I am just loving playing with it!

Aloha! - Life is a beach with H2H challenges

Oh my, how on earth did the admin at Heart 2 Heart Challenges know that this weekend is my daughters Luau themed birthday party? It works perfectly with this weeks H2H challenge of Life is a beach!

Some of the decor I made is cupcake toppers, a banner, thank you cards and the invitations. I had so much more I wanted to make but me and my girls were out enjoying the nice weather that we just ran out of time and really, do 8 year old kids look at the decorations or are they more into the fun with their friends, the cake (or cupcakes), and games! 

All cardstock was Close to my heart but for the sake of time, I did a lot of the design in my Silhouette Cameo and just printed it off rather than cut it out. The invitations were all hand cut and assembled, but the rest was print offs as I just ran out of time due to enjoying the summer and being outside!

The following two are the digital mock ups I did and printed out on White Daisy yardstick and placed on Cotton Candy for the invite and Sunset for the Thank you card.

Pink, Pink, Pink, it is time to THINK PINK!

Pink, Pink, Pink, with 3 girls under the age of 7 I have a LOT of pink my house so coming up with something pink for this weeks Think Pink challenge at Heart 2 Heart scrapbooking was not hard at all! It also helped that I still have a few scraps left from one of my Favourite paper packs from the current Annual Inspiration Idea book from CTMH and that is Brushed.  I still find it odd that I LOVE Brushed as much as I do, it would not typically be my kind of paper pack, I am not usually so in LOVE with big bold flowers and bright bright colours but this one just spoke to me for some reason. 

Anyways, today is all about Think Pink with Heart 2 Heart challenges! So Think Pink, use your favourite pink or pink colours from Close to My heart on any kind of project you like. It could be a card, layout, home decor item, base & bling jewelry, Picture my life....anything, just as long as you Think Pink CTMH style!

So here is what I came up for Think Pink:

For me right now it is hard to say what is my favourite pink, Hollyhock is a great pink but I think I would have to say that right now Pixie is my favourite pink. That does not take away my love of the other pinks such as Cotton Candy and Smoothie; oh the possibilities are beautifully pink!

Happy Birthday - H2H favourite stamp challenge

Happy Monday!

It is time for some more artwork and this time it is not school related...YIPPPEEE!

I had some friends over the other night and I got to work on some scrapbook projects. For this weeks Heart 2 Heart challenges this week the challenge is to use your favourite stamp set on your project. This one was a bit more challenging than I had originally thought it would be; I have so many favourites!

I chose to use a couple of images from some of my favourites. From the stamp set D1506 Family Love I used the saying "Family...together we have it all." I just love that line because really without our families we are nothing. From the set D1407 Piece of Cake, I used one of the birthday cakes, I just love these dainty pretty cakes. The last stamp set I used is C1429 Party Pennants. I used this on the cute little pennants and the Happy Birthday. I love that it is a Dainty set and works so well with the sweet cake.

H2H - Up, up, and away

It is time for another great challenge from Heart 2 Heart Challenge. This weeks theme is Up, Up, & Away: Focus on something up in the air (plane, helicopter, hot air balloon, butterfly, bird, etc.)

I just got an order from CTMH this week and in it is one of the stamp sets I have been drooling over for months, Windy Day. It was perfect timing for this stamp set to come in with the theme in this weeks challenge. 

I brought out my very limited collection of Copic Markers to colour in the little girl and the kite but I did not like how the kite turned out so I did a bit of paper piecing instead. I have not coloured with my Copic markers in well over a year and that was all shortly after taking a beginners class at a local scrapbook store so my colouring is not the greatest, but it was fun to get them out again!

Canada Day T-Shirts! A H2H Challenge

Happy Canada Day!

One of our family traditions is to get new shirts each year for Canada Day! As a scrapbooker I always stage pictures of the girls and make sure I get pictures of the girls in their shirts. I made this layout for the pictures I will take this year (I already scrapbooked last years) and the theme for this months Heart 2 Heart Challenge scrapbook challenge. This layout will hold a 5X7 and 3 4X4 pictures and I left a bit of space for some journaling. 

The Challenge this month is a Colour Challenge - Red and White!

It’s not a coincidence that this color combo corresponds with all of the flags of “Close To My Heart countries” and that both Canada and the United States celebrate their independence this month.  

You can any shades of blue and any neutrals to your project, but please keep the focus on Red (Ruby or Cranberry) & White Daisy.  Your project doesn’t have to be patriotic, but it certainly could be!  You must mention which CTMH colors you use in your scrapbooking project.  You must also have some SPARKLE (red shimmer trim, sparkles, or base & bling, anyone?) AND sewing too!  Real or faux, it’s up to you!

So remember, show your CTMH pride, scrapbook-style with:

-Any red and White Daisy

- sparkle

- sewing

- optional blue

Some details about my layout here, I do have sparkle on it but it is not showing up very well in the pictures, I have bitty clear sparkles in-between each of the banners. The swirly lines across the bottom are faux sticking using the Simple Stitches stamp set and are stamped in Ruby and Black. The stitching line was straight but I laid it out wavy on my block for a unique look.

Heart 2 Heart - Hair Bows

When my littlest munchkin was about 18 months old I was down in my scrapbook room and she got ahold of one of her sisters hair bows and wanted it in her hair so I put it in for her. She started to model the and fluff her hair, she thought she was beautiful and of course she was, with or without it she is beautiful. I tried to get a picture of her with it in her hair and she ket looking the other way trying to see what I was doing. She was so adorable!

This layout was perfect for the challenge over at Heart 2 Heart Challenges the theme is all about bows or bow ties. I kept it simple this week, to meet the challenge goal I put a bow on top of the picture because the way she kept turning I was not able to get any good pictures of the actual bow but you can see her hair pulled back and where the bow should be.

H2H - Rhapsody in Blue

This week at Heart 2 Heart Challeges the theme is Rhapsody in Blue and the goal is to Create a predominately blue project (bonus if you include a musical motif). As always I have a plan in mind when I see one of the challenges and 99% of the time that plan in my head gets tossed aside for something different as I begin. Today I was going to work on my hinged display tray that I got a while ago and had no where to put but as I began looking I remembered I had this bracket frame and thought it would look awesome on our new built in book cases. I wanted to use this saying that I found in the Silhouette online store because it speaks to me as we are in the process of becoming a forever family with our 3 girls we are trying to adopt. This will serve as a reminder to all of us that we are in this family thing forever and none of us are going anywhere! Also, like 99% of my projects I have a plan in my mind for what papers and colours I will be using and I had every intention of using way more blue but when I got putting it together it just would not work with my decor so I while the primary colour is not blue the focal points are blue and the most important words are blue...family and forever!

Everything on here is from CTMH with the exception of the saying, which I got in the Silhouette online store, it is from Kolette Hall. The paper is a retired paper pack called Grace.

Nautical Dad - H2H Challenges

Hello and happy Monday to you! It is time for another Heart 2 Heart challenge and this week it is all about being So very Nauti(cool)! It is time to dust off your nautical themed supplies and show us what you got. 

When I thought Nautical I instantly thought of Tommy, a retired CTMH paper pack. I had a few scraps left floating around (get it, floating around?) and decided they would be perfect for this nautical theme. I decided to go with a Father's day card as my dad was in the US Navy and while his military service did not define his life, it did shape him to be the man he turned out to be and that is an awesome man, father, grandfather and he must be a pretty great husband too as he was with my mom for 30 years until she passed and just celebrated his 20th anniversary with my step mom so I will take that as evidence he must be a good husband too!

Anyways, onto the project, bring on the card, show me the card...he he he. As I mentioned, this card is made with Tommy (retired), Cranberry card stock and ink, and C1571 You're the best stamp set. I purposely turned the banners up a bit to make it look like they are flapping in the wind. A simple card but I think the colours make it rather striking.

H2H - In the Garden

Spring, oh spring where are you? We have such a long winter here in Canada it is absolute torture to not have Spring here yet, it is the May long weekend here and I would love to send our rain to San Diego (where they need the rain due to the wild fires that are raging wild fires and would just love a sunny warm day, just one would be nice. 

This week we have a spring inspired challenge over at Heart 2 Heart challenges, our theme is in the garden. Dust off your supplies and create your own garden wherever you are. 

My garden inspired card was made using the Wings (retired) paper pack, black card stock, and the retired Flower pot set. I colours in the flowers with my water colour pencils and used the water blending pen to soften the look some.

It's a Banner Day!

Magical May - Heart 2 Heart Scrapbook Challenge!

Each month at Heart 2 Heart Challenges we have a challenge geared just towards scrapbooking (our other challenges can be any type of paper craft or home decor using paper) but this one is a good old fashion Scrapbook Challenge. This months theme is Magical May. 

For this challenge there are a few rules / challenges:

• Layout(s) must be 12 X 12. 
• Create your background papers using CTMH stamps. This can be your background page, a photo mat, layered strips, even flags, something must be random stamped and we must be able to see the design. 
• Your layout must feature at least one picture. 

For the Magical theme, it can be anything at all, something Magical that has happened in your life, a Magical day, trip, event, anything really, just as long as it is magical to you!

For my layout, I chose to do something very magical to my girls, our Elf Helper Stacey. Stacey joined our family in 2012 and the girls instantly fell in love with her. They loved seeing the different things she would do each night and would fight to see who would find her new hiding place first. For our three little ones, Stacey is truly magical!

Now, remember there were some rules / challenges to this. Background paper, check! If you look under the picture of Stacey telling the girls there are only 5 more days until Santa comes you can see that I stamped Ho Ho Ho in Ruby ink on the Ruby card stock. I have obviously used at least 1 photo, in fact I had to many pictures that I had to break out my flip flaps. If you look again at the 5 more days, if it looks like it is sticking up a bit, it is. I have 5 more pictures under that picture and it flips up to reveal the pictures. These are attached right to the page protector so you can see and use them even when they are in their page protectors.

Once upon a time....Heart 2 Heart Challenges

This weeks theme at Heart 2 Heart Challenges is a fairly easy one for anyone with young girls....Once upon a time! What do you think of when you hear Once upon a time? For me, my first thought was princesses, Disney Princesses. I have 3 girls under the age of 6 so I have a lot of Princess stuff in my house (most against my will I will add!) The minute I heard the theme of this week I knew just what I was going to do for it. My oldest was invited to her first "friend" birthday party and it was a princess party! For me this week was an obvious one on what to do with the Once upon a time theme as I am always looking for a way to get layouts done. But for many this one may be a bit of a stumper if you do not have little girls. Some of my initial thoughts for once upon a time are what was life like as you were graduating high school or college and had the whole world in front of you, did your life turn out like you hoped? (mine didn't it is better than I had thought and oh so different!), Once upon a time could be wedding pictures, your trip to Disney. There is so so much you can do with this theme, it really is not just for princesses!

For this project I used an old retired paper pack as it had the Cinderella blue, everything else had to much pink in it. I do not recall the name off hand, I believe it was Tickled Pink. Everything on here is Close to my Heart the cartridge I used to cut Cinderella out is Cricut Opposites Attract, and the "meeting" stickers are from the company called TLC which has been out of business for several years now. I have included the invitation which was made by someone else so I am not sure where those products came from.

Oh Snap! - Heart 2 Heart Challenges

It is time for another Heart 2 Heart Challenge! This week it is all about the Cricut! Our challenge, should you decide to accept it is to use a Cricut die cut in a unique or different way! I will admit that I am not one who can look at a shape of say a heart and see endless possibilities of things you can create, I see a heart! So knowing that about me I was worried about this challenge to be honest. I poured over all my cartridges looking for that divine inspiration and guess what I came up with....a big whopping NOTHING! So then I decided to stop looking for shapes and just looking and then I got it, our over lays. In the Artbooking cartridge is a lot of overlays and I have seen people use them to make stencils and such so that is what I turned my eye too. 

I love this chevron trend right now so I gravitated to this one and I took my ink out and some sponges and I went to work. I used the help of my friends over at Color My Heart for the colours I was going to use, because again, why think about it they will do it for me and hopefully force me out of my comfort zone! I was thrilled, the colours of the rainbow. I will add my 6 year old was too, she loves anything and everything rainbow so I had an audience once she realized what I was doing. 

So any hoots, I put a bright pink overlay down and sponged the colours on in the colours of the rainbow (thanks to the leapfrog picnic basket that sings red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple its a rainbow for reminding me of what order the colours went in...LOL!

Cottage…err Country Flair

This weeks challenge at Heart 2 Heart Challenges is Country Flair….hmmm Country Flair? I am a city a girl and while I would love to live out in the country in the wide open spaces like the Dixie Chicks sign about, I don't. I do not have anything country or event country - ish. So I went to our closest thing we have that that is Cottage Life. If and when the snow ever melts here in Ontario, Canada it will be the start of the 2nd most wonderful time of the year…Cottage season. We have so much winter up here that the little bit of spring and summer we get we have to take full advantage of and we do, up in Cottage country!

I was at a crop yesterday and I knew I had a project due for the Heart 2 Heart Challenges and I had been playing with the new Close to my Heart Timberline papers and as the crop was drawing to a close I started to think about what to do for this challenge and I glanced down at the scraps and some of my left over Timberline Complements I saw this blue canoe and then I looked back at the pictures I had been scrapping of our time at the cottage in 2012 and I saw the blue canoe…my father in laws beloved blue canoe. He goes out in the canoe as much as he can when he is up at their cottage in the summer. He can not wait for the grandkids to get there so he and my husband can take them out in the canoe, each year at the beginning and end of the season he canoes around the lake to see what has changed in the landscape of their little lake in Northern Ontario's cottage country. It is not a trip to the cottage without a ride in grandpa's blue canoe. I could not believe my luck, there was a left over canoe sticker and it was blue, what are the odds? Anyways, this card, while simple reflects the cottage life. The patterned paper remind me of the wood walls and the decks, the simplicity reflects the simple life one leads up at the cottage, and of course the blue is water and the canoe….that is all the wonderful memories that we have of the blue canoe!

Feeling Lucky?

Oh my, I am a bit behind in posting actual artwork and for that I am sorry! This winter has been a rough one at our house. We have had snow on the ground (like much of Canada) since November, we usually get a storm it melts away and a while later another storm comes. Not this year, it never melted away and just kept coming and coming. Add to that the fun term of 2014 the Polar Vortex and well it has been a very cold, very snowy year for us and all of that fun has led to a house of very sick people! I for one never get more than a slight cold but not this year, I was sick, in bed not moving sick in December right over Christmas for 2-3 weeks, it took a long time to rebound from that one. Then all was good, the hubby and the kids had a few little sniffles along the way but I thought we would be good and make it out of the winter with nothing else but NOOOOO I was so wrong. I went to bed one night about 3 weeks ago and I had the feeling, you know the cold from the inside out and just could not get warm….I knew it was not going to be good and it wasn't. I slept for 49 hours straight with the odd washroom break or drink of water but really I did not leave the bed for 49 hours and with 3 toddlers that is a feat! Thank god for the help of my hubby and his mother, I do not know what I would have done. And even after the 49 hours in bed, it has taken me about 3 weeks to rebound fully. Unfortunately, as I began to feel better the hubby went down with pneumonia (for the like 6th time in 2 years) and has been home sick and out of work for almost 2 weeks now, we think we caught it in time and are hopefully he can return to work soon, the last time he was off work for 8 weeks!

So am I feeling lucky? Hard to say honestly but I am very hopefully that we will be lucky and not get any more snow and that the weather will slowly start to warm up and I do have a very small spot of grass showing through the snow drifts in my back yard, so that makes me feel that lady luck is slowly waking up from her long winter slumber and about to visit us. 

This week at Heart 2 Heart Challenges the theme is Feeling Lucky? What does that mean to you. When you think of lucky where does your mind go? For me it is all about St. Patricks day and four leaf clovers, it is March after all. Our Design team has come up with some awesome projects for what makes them feel lucky. I used Topiary ink for the 4 leaf clovers and I double stamped or I think it is also called second generation stamping where you ink up your stamp and stamp once on a scrap then again on your actual project to give it a muted affect. I did not second generation stamp on the outline of the clovers. I also used our Colour Seam binding (retired) and Foundry Frames (also retired) on this page. The green card stock is not CTMH, I am not sure what it is from as it was a scrap. The stamp set is the March Word Puzzle (retired) and all of the images in the random stamp are from that same set.
